Company description:

Syrris is a fast-growing world-leader in the field of automated products for Organic Chemistry. Syrris has customers around the world, with its sales coming 30% from Europe, 30% from the Americas and 40% from Asia. Syrris has sales offices in the UK, USA, Japan, India, and Brazil, as well as having distributors in over 30 countries. Syrris’ customers come from pharmaceutical, academic, petrochemicals, chemicals, defence and other industries.

Formed in 2001, Syrris is based in Royston in Hertfordshire, and in August 2011 moved into completely refurbished premises. All Syrris products are manufactured in the Royston facility.

As a result of the growth of the company, Syrris is expanding its R&D team to continue to innovate and develop new world leading products.

The Syrris products are world leading for two key reasons:

  • They are easier to use than any other products in the market
  • They are more technically advanced than others, and therefore able to achieve results otherwise not possible for customers

The products are fully integrated electro mechanical systems driven with both low and high level software. The Syrris global team is highly dynamic and motivated, and as a result of the ongoing growth of the company there is much opportunity for development. Many team members have very significantly increased their seniority as the company has grown. The Syrris team strives for the best possible performance, but is also highly meritocratic, so that performance is rewarded.

The Role:

The Senior Project Engineer role is to take a leading position in the Syrris R&D team, and is based in Royston, Herts. The key objective of this role is to take part in and manage multi-disciplinary projects with significant amounts of software, electronics and control, as well as mechanical systems.

At present Syrris has a plug and play infrastructure in place which is well proven, and robust. However, we have demands on the business that will require the team to consider the roadmap of this architecture into the future, while continuing to deliver on shorter term objectives.

This role will report to the Head of Operations, and will have a competitive salary, plus pension, healthcare and other benefits.

The successful candidate for this role will be:

  • A Mechanical or Electronics Engineer with experience of systems engineering and software
  • Excellent academically and have knowledge of engineering principles
  • A motivated self-starter
  • An excellent communicator
  • Excited to be heavily involved in the technical work
  • Able to give examples of having developed novel solutions to engineering problems.

The successful candidate will have experience of:

  • Managing product development projects
  • Product development from concept through to manufacturing ramp up
  • Thinking creatively and clearly about problems, generating and presenting possible solutions for review
  • Taking ownership of projects and products
  • Communicating with software engineers
  • Monitoring project KPIs and plan against them to ensure maximum project performance

In addition, useful but not essential skills would include:

  • Knowledge of CE and regulatory requirements
  • Experience of supervision
  • Experience of formal project management methodologies
  • Knowledge of C#, .net, Pro Engineer, Microchip PIC, Linux
